Results

Results:
Interpreting the results of a testicular ultrasound involves evaluating the images captured during the scan to identify any abnormalities in the testes and surrounding structures.

Normal findings
Appearance: The normal testicles should appear as homogeneously medium-level echoes (echogenicity) with smooth, well-defined borders.
Epididymis: Normally appears as an elongated structure at the back of the testicle with similar echogenicity.
Vas Deferens and Spermatic Cord: These should be free of abnormalities or masses.

Abnormal findings
Cysts: Appear as round, anechoic (dark) areas with a clearly defined boundary, generally benign.
Solid Masses: Any solid mass within the testicle is considered potentially malignant until proven otherwise. These can vary in echogenicity but often have irregular borders and may disrupt the normal architecture of the testicle.
Hydrocele: Fluid around the testicle appearing as an anechoic space surrounding the testicle. Generally benign.
Varicocele: Dilated veins in the scrotum that appear as tubular structures with increased blood flow when assessed with Doppler imaging. Often found above the testicle, primarily on the left side.
Epididymitis or Orchitis: Inflammation can cause the epididymis or testes to enlarge and show increased blood flow on Doppler imaging, often accompanied by pain and swelling.

Healthcare providers should review these results in the context of the patient’s symptoms and clinical history to determine the appropriate next steps, which may include further testing, referral to a specialist, or immediate treatment.
