June 23, 2025

Anyone can get breast cancer. It’s important to check your breasts or chest regularly (around once a month) for symptoms of breast cancer or other conditions.

Step-By-Step Guide

  1. Look in the mirror: Stand in front of your mirror with your shoulders straight and hands on your hips. Check for changes in size, shape or colour. Look for dimpling, puckering or any unusual swelling.
  2. Raise your arms: Lift both arms above your head and check for the same changes. Look for any differences between the breasts or changes in the nipple, such as inversion or discharge.
  3. Check for fluid: Gently squeeze your nipples to see if there is any discharge (clear, milky, yellow or bloody).
  4. Feel your breasts while standing and sitting: Use your right hand for your left breast and left hand for your right breast. Use the pads of your fingers in a circular motion, covering the entire breast from collarbone to under the breast. Apply lgiht, medium and firm pressure to feel all the layers of tissue.
  5. Check while lying down: Lie flat with one arm behind your head. Use the opposite hand to feel the breast, repeatng the same circular motion. Don’t forget to check the armpit area for lumps or thickening!

Why You Should Check Your Breasts or Chest

Checking your breasts regularly helps you to understand what looks and feels normal for YOU.

This makes it easier to notice any changes that could be a sign of a condition like breast cancer.

It’s recommended to try and check your breasts or chest at least once a month.

When Can A Breast Ultrasound Be Useful?

This scan is an essential tool for evaluating breast health, providing real-time imaging that can help identify potential issues early.

Whether you’re experiencing symptoms or simply want peace of mind, a Breast Ultrasound offers a clear, reliable view of your breast tissue without the need for radiation.
